The A’s first manager was Connie Mack. The A’s lost their first game on April 26, 1901 to Washington. 3 days later, the A’s beat the Boston Red Sox, 5-1, for their first win in franchise history. Nap Lajoie, the A’s first star, hitting .422. Nap Lajoie still holds the record for the best batting average in the AL.
In Kansas City, the A’s spent 13 year there. The A’s didn’t go to any playoffs at all in those 13 years. The A’s never contested the division. Charlie Finley bought the franchise in 1960, and moved the A’s to Oakland 8 years later. When the A’s moved to Oakland, they did a lot better.
When the A’s moved to Oakland, the A’s won five straight division titles. In those five years the A’s won championships from 1972-1975. At this time the A’s wore gold and green uniforms. The Oakland A’s still play in Oakland today. They have been in Oakland since 1968.
