The Oakland Athletics are a baseball club based in Oakland, California. They play in the US against 29 other teams. Their is two divisions in the MLB, AL and NL. The Oakland Athletics are in the American League. The Athletics are often referred to the A’s.
The Oakland A’s have won 15 AL pennants and 9 World Series championships. They Oakland A’s used to be based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. When the A’s were an early team, there was only 8 other teams in the AL. The Oakland A’s posted a winning record in their first 7 seasons in the MLB. In those 7 seasons, they got 2 AL pennants.
A couple years after that, they were in a deep struggle. The draft after that year the Oakland A’s got three future Hall of Famers. The three Hall of Famers are Jimmie Foxx, a 1st baseman, Lefty Grove, a pitcher, and Mickey Cochrane, a catcher. When all three of the future Hall of Famers made their MLB debut, the A’s already had all-time great outfielder, Al Simmons. The A’s were in Philadelphia at the time.
After that year, the Oakland A’s finished second place behind the New York Yankees. That year they won the AL pennant and the World series title. The A’s won two World Series titles. After the two World Series titles, the Oakland A’s lost three consecutive trips to the World Series. Before moving to Oakland, the A’s moved to Kansas City.
After a couple years in Kansas City, the A’s moved to Oakland. In 2012, the Oakland A’s produced a 20 game improvement form 2011. In 2012 they rallied from a five game deficit to the Texas Rangers with nine games left in the MLB season. In 2014 the A’s had the best record in the MLB during the All-Star break. After the season, they finished one game in front of the Seattle Mariners to get in the second wild card. They lost to the Kansas City Royals in a 12 inning game. After that game the A’s performance fell off. They posted 2 consecutive seasons with 90 losses.
